Fried Chicken, BBQ, Beer and Blues

This is an action packed week for the Lee family.  Here are some happenings coming up:

This Wednesday will be the second installment of Blues on the Green at Zilker Park.
Playing this week: The Bright Light Social Hour with Suzanna Choffel.
Instead of an extensive picnic menu, we're keeping it easy this week with a fried chicken taste testing / sampler.  Anyone who wants to can bring 6+ pieces of fried chicken, rolls/biscuits and one other side dish from the restaurant of their choice to share.  So far, Katrina is bringing Bush's Chicken and we're bringing Golden Chick.  Let me know what you're bringing so we don't have duplicate restaurants.  We'll be sure to bring some sweet tea, bottled water and some picnic blankets too.

There's a little bbq joint in Lexington, Texas that serves up The Best BBQ in Texas, as rated by Texas Monthly, only on Saturdays from 8am until they run out (~11am).  We've once again decided to make the 1.5 hour trek from our house at 8am to Snows BBQ for some good eats.

Some other cool things in the Austin area this Saturday:

Real Ale Brewery's 15th Anniversary Party in Blanco, TX.
Home to Fireman's 4.

Peach Picking and a day in Fredericksburg

It's peach season! and for those who have never had a freshly picked Fredericksburg peach, it is a foodie experience you absolutely must indulge. These aren't those bland, boring grocery store peaches. These incredibly juicy, flavorful globes put all other peaches to shame.

You wont be able to eat just one. Here's Glen having his fill and Angell on probably his 10th sample.

Our journey will begin at our place at 8am on Saturday, whence we will caravan over to Marburger Orchard (www.marburgerorchard.com) in Fredericksburg. They currently have 3 varieties of peaches (Harvester, Sentinel and Gala), blackberries and strawberries ripe for the pickin'. Afterwards, we'll mosey over to Fredericksburg proper for some tourism, shopping and dining.

On Sunday, there'll be a peachy little garden party at our house where everyone is welcome to bring a dish that they have made out of peaches (or just whatever you like), and we'll also have peach spreads, a main dish basted in raspberry peach chipotle glaze (thanks Tung and Debbie for the sauce!) and homemade peach ice cream. Some other ideas are peach tea, peach cobbler, peach smoothies, something with peach schnapps and peach salsa. Afterwards, you are welcome to enjoy the lazy Sunday afternoon with us while you overcome your peach food coma. We have plenty of couches and guest rooms for food coma naps. :)

So let us know if you'll be joining us on our little food adventure.
And also be sure to wish cousin Derrick a very happy birthday!

Love, Peach and Happiness,
The Lees
